Takeuchi TB015 Issues

Hello I am a recently new owner of a 2003 TB015 excavator and Ive discovered my great deal may not be such a deal. The first is the battery isn't charging, I discovered the warning light is burnt or blown and the battery is dying. WHen running no power going to the battery. Wouldn't be that big of a deal except it looks like a major project to get to the alternator to check it out. Can anyone explain how to get to the alternator and the is the regulator built into it?

Second issue is the real issue, like anything I buy I go through it and Ive replaced all the filters and fluids except the final drive gear oil. I went to change that today, one was fine, replace the oil with fresh. BUt the second one nothing flowed out. Trying to force gear oil in and none would go in or come out the drain hole. I then went to squirting in fine oil and it was leaking out from what looks like the middle of the tracks. I took the front cover off and it looks packed with sluge/mud.

Im assuming there is a seal on the back side that needs to be replaced at best. Can anyone explain how to take this apart to get to that seal? I found another thread that mentions this: In the thread the its this 19129-02621 is the part number.

Any help is much appreciated, I see these drives for sale on ebay for 2600-3K which is a lot for me!

Thumb question

I'm having a thumb and quick-attach coupler installed on my dipper, and I'm talking to the shop owner about it. He says he intends to install a relief valve. Can anyone tell me why you would need a relief valve in a thumb circuit? I alway thought, because I was taught, that the main system relief is all that is necessary, and that it sets the operating pressure for the entire system. What is he trying to sell me?

I'm having the work done for me so I don't have to take time off of my day job, which is the one that pays the bills.

IHI Aftermarket Hydraulic Return Filter

I am replacing all the fluids on my "new to me" 2007 IHI 35N-2. I was able to cross all the filters except the hydraulic return filter to ones available at the auto shops. At $83 from IHI, I would really like to find a generic replacement for this as well. Anybody know of a second source or perhaps another mini-ex that uses the same one?

Thanks.

Groaning sound while turning the housing under load.

I have a IHI 35N. I have been clearing some large boulders from the side of a hill. I'll grab a boulder from the downhill side of the hill and swing it to the uphill side. While I swing the boulders uphill I can hear what I can best describe as a groaning sound, and I can feel a little vibration, nothing extreme but just enough to be noticeable. I can't remember ever loading the turntable like this so I'm not sure if it's normal, or if it's a sign that something might be on it's way out. I only get this sound when swinging large boulders. It's smooth and quiet when swinging small to moderate sized boulders for this machine. Does anyone have any insight to this?

I have another hydraulic issue. My hydraulics have recently started leaking down. I cannot see any external hydraulic leaks anywhere. What would most likely cause this? An interior leak in the control valves?

tb135 stalling intermittently

Sooooo just start having stalling problems with my 135 a couple days ago. Has 2800 hrs and I've never had any problems with it since I got it with around 2200 on it. It will run good for an hour or so then stall out flashing battery light and light right below it as well. Let it sit for a minute starts then stalls again. Also has long cranking as well after stalls. Will run fine again then stall just like prior. On and off like that all day. Checked all fluid and levels are fine. Battery has 12v and charges around 14.1-14.4. Not sure where to go from here. Possible wiring issue? Sensor? Hoping someone here has had a similar problem. Thanks all.

Beginners question on digging with an excavator

Hello Im using my TB015 to dig a trench and install culverts and Im discovering a problem. Im diggingin wet sandy and clay earth and its quite sticky. After about 5 buckets full the bucket is encased with earth and I cannot shake it out. Ive even tried to bang it on a tree to no success.

So is there any trick to keep the bucket self cleaning? Like spraying it with oil or WD40 like you would with a snow shovel?

Thanks

Auxiliary Hydraulic piping kit

Hi,

I have a Komatsu PC50UU-MR2. The excavator wasn't set up for a breaker so I had to get an auxiliary hydraulic kit. Interestingly, the manufacture I bought the kit from (pics attached) doesn't know how the parts are assembled on the machine. They suggested that I have it installed by a professional, but I can't afford to do that. Can anyone provide me a auxiliary hydraulic kit installation manual or even pictures of an excavator with auxiliary lines set up for a hydraulic breaker (including pics of the controller valve connections). Ideally, it would be for a PC50/45/40 but in lieu of that, any excavator would do.

An additional question: do excavators come with extra/empty control valves so you can 'easily' hook up extra lines to or are they only equipped with the minimal number of control valves?

My friend has a mini-ex, no manual, no identification except a label stamped under the cab with some Kanji writing and "HA-4121" and the numbers "6005071" . THE TURRET MOTOR IS BAD AND WE ARE TRYING TO FIND A REPLACEMENT.

The Motor itself has "HY04" stamped on it as well as "HY02" Also, the motor could also be a Nachi Fujkoshi. Any help would be great.Name: IMAG0170.jpg

Sold my TB015 tonight now looking for another machin, what should I get?

Okay I sold my Takeuchi TB015 tonight and would like to find a machin that can lift 3,500 pounds or more. Thinking something in the 4-6 ton range might work but want to be sure I can still get parts for the machine. I do have a budget and its not huge. I'm looking at a bobcat 334g excavator or a yanmar zero turn machine. What are your thoughts on the bobcat 334g? I can't seem to find much info on it. The yanmar is a 1998 and thinking I might have trouble getting final drive parts for it like my takeuchi. How are parts availability for each machine? What machine do you recommend?

I am looking at 2002 Thomas T15 S excavator in good working condition, but have no familarity with the brand. Does anyone have expierence with them and or opinions about them. They are made in Canada - not China - that's a plus in my book. They seem hard to find information on so that makes me nervrous about parts & service.
Thanks for any insight.

Schaeff HR12 quirks (7000 hours on it)

$

I bought an old Schaeff HR12 with 7000 hours on it. It has its quirks, none of which have yet (in 10 hours) stopped me using it on my farm. Its a 1.6 tonne mini excavator made in 1998 and has rubber tracks. I bought it to dig ditches, swales, mini ponds, shovel sheep sh*t, do some work for friends and friends of friends. I also have a dream of making a log crapple for it and attaching a trailer hitch on the blade to haul an ATV log trailer.

I'm asking for feedback for the following quirks to try to identify what needs fixing and how critical it is. I dont want the machine to break down when I'm helping out a friend, far away from my tools and workshop.

1. Tracking:
The biggest quirk is that when I try to track forwards, it veers off to one side. Both tracking levers have a lot of play in them, but one has a lot more play than the other.
Also a track in one side slips/skips when moving under load or turning around in one spot.
The tracks are old, but the previous owner assured me that if treated very tenderly, they will have max 1000 hours left in them.
I am afraid of even taking tight turns and turning in one spot. They havent come off, but it feels like the drive sprocket will just cut through them if I load them too much.

Should I replace the tracks or do they just need tensioning?

2. Rotating:
The joystick rotating the house stops working sometimes (happens more in low revs), the other joystick functions still work. The house can be rotated right after I engage the blade fully up and down, sometimes when I slightly touch another hydraulic lever. When this quirk is happening, the house will move where gravity takes it, but only a little bit (maybe 5 degrees max). The house brakes normally when I can rotate it.
When I rotate with a load, the rotary joint makes a slight rattling sound.

Are the bearings busted?

3. A Hydraulic line on the boom is dripping a bit when the engine is running. Its leaking more when under load in certain conditions.
I should probably replace the line? :)

I just hope to get atleast 1000-2000 hours out of it (1-3 years of farmwork and friends), before anything very expensive breaks (like the engine). Is that realistic?

Mini excavator purchase

Hello - I am considering buying a used Deere 35D and am looking for some valued opinions and experienced advice...
How many hours are alot for a mini? Are there specific problem areas that I should pay special attention to? Do pin grabber couplers on long dipper sticks with hydraulic thumbs greatly reduce the machines hydraulic strength? I have many such questions, and would appreciate any input.
Thanks

KX121-3 vs TL250 Loading Trucks

$

I have two things I'm currently trying to decide on.

I have a KX121-3ST with the qc and thumb and am wondering how well it can manage a 36" bucket. USA Attachments has a 36" bucket with a .15/.22 cu yard capacity. My current job is loading out trucks with dirt cut from a house pad.

I haven't decided which would be better, the TL250 track loader or the ex for loading the trucks from the stockpile. The ex could load off a bench. I'm guessing we have 1-1.5k yards to haul out, although that might grow. Loading into tandems... I'm nearly positive the TL250 would have to load from both sides due to the reach. A high dump bucket would be another choice, but that's more than I want to spend for this job.

Any helpful theories/opinions?
