implements trencher and fail mower for mini excavator anyone have any experience?
I am interested in picking up a newer 8000lb ish excavator, and looking for input from anyone who has experience running a trencher or a flail mower on a machine of this size. Curious how they work out.
Ive never used either. Are the trenchers worth while or are I better off with a trenching bucket and just digging the old fashion way?
what about the flail mower, the videos online of them grinding trees up to 4+" diameter are very cool, will a 8000b machine give me decent results?
Are certain machines better then others for these attachments? higher flow I guess..
thanks

CAT 305 series... Your thoughts.
Hey Everyone!
Just wanted some feedback from those of you who have a 305.
As my business progresses over the next few years I want to eventually pick up a 305C CR or D CR. I plan on using it for Hardscaping, Drainage, Storm Water Systems, Grading, Small Pools, etc...
How do you like yours?
Do you find it to be more stable than a 304 or 303.5?
Do they have decent power?
Fair to service?
Do you regret your purchase?

Cat 302.5 Arm will only swing one direction
Hey guys,
Did a search and couldn't find to much on this so I just wanted to ask if anyone has had this problem with their mini.
The machine is a Cat 302.5. everything works on it fine, but the arm will only pivot in one direction with the foot pedal control. It will gradually come back over hours of use but never past a certain point to the other direction. As soon as you press the pedal to the other side, it goes back perfect with plenty of power and speed. The pedal is sticking with these frigid cold temps and does need some work but before I dig into this machine and start taking hose after hose off to even get down in there I wanted to see if anyone has ever had this problem and knows what to look for.
Thanks everyone

Mitsubishi MM57 SR.
Hello folks .
I am very new new at this , but i am looking at buying a 2000 Mitsubishi MM57 SR. Mini excavator with 3300 hours.
Has anyone heard of this brand name and if so , would one know where parts could be bought as I have search the Net but can not find any information anywhere about this brand or where I could buy parts if it was needed later on...
I can get this excavator for under $15,000.
I was told that parts may be very hard to find.
Thanks

Kobelco sk60 monitor problems
Hi all new to this forum. Glad to find help so close at hand. The monitor on my Kobelco works part time and lately not much at all. When not working i also have no voltage output from the alternator causing the unit to stay running but to stop all other functions. i do have the service manuals but they are hard to read. I was hoping someone had a troubleshooting step-by-step flow chart to find the cause of the problem. The excavator runs good and when the monitor does work shows an OK symbol on the screen. Oil pressure and water temps are fine and unit cold starts fine even at below freezing temps. Thanks in advance for any help i receive,Stephen

cat 305ccr track replacement advise
I have a cat 305ccr with 800 hrs on it. the 305 is used in a rocky environment and on asphalt. The tracks are showing the steel cables, broken cables and a few of the crossover metal drive bars are out of alignment or popping up.
I was thinking about replacing the stock tracks with McLaren Hybrid Steel Track with Rubber Shoes. Does anyone out there have a history with these tracks? THANKS!!!

Newbie....question about a Cat 301.5cr
Hi everyone....thank you for providing such a useful forum!
I'll apologise firstly for the long post....I'm on a steep learning curve and am trying to gather a fair bit of info.
Recently I purchased a used Cat 301.5cr with 1400hrs. After looking at quite a few used mini's, this one was by far in the best condition, well looked after, tight and with no issues, in the budget I was looking for.
I'm now in a quandary about wether to keep it or not....initially I assumed since it's a Cat I wouldn't have to worry about parts availability....from the research I've since done, it seems I'd be hard pushed to find any sort of workshop manual for it and/or some parts since it's seems it was only released in Japan (I'm in Oz). From what I can see, I can get most of the undercarriage parts (even here in Oz) and the motor I know is a Mitsubishi L3e which is fairly common.
It'll be being used at my home in my spare time on a small acreage and not worked overly hard.
I'm fairly handy with mechanical things and generally repair (and enjoy repairing/servicing) all my own equipment. I've never had to deal with an excavator tho and am not sure just what parts are able to be sourced/fabricated/rebuilt or can be bought off the shelf.
I'm quite happy to have the machine out of action for a while whilst I sort a problem out, I just don't want to have something minor (or major) break that will mean the whole thing is permanently out of action.
I'm just not even sure if simple things like hydraulic cylinder seals are a common sized item available from a hydraulic store or do I need to have specific Cat part no's for these?
I don't want to move it on unless I have to because it really is a nice machine and faultless at the moment.
Just after some advice from others!

Bobcat 442
I came across a Bobcat 442 machine and I am going to look at this weekend. Anyone got any positives or negatives about this machine? ~2500hrs on the machine. Anything I need to really take a look at when I am checking it out as far as parts common to wear or really expensive to replace? Thanks

One or Two Spare Tracks?
I just bought a Takeuchi TB-135 and was thinking it would be wise to keep a spare track on hand.
I'm not very experienced with this sort of equipment and I suspect my military APC experience would be of limited applicability.
So, is it OK to keep a single track on hand as a spare or do they really need to be replaced as a pair?

Dead controls on MM55sr
Hello everybody,
I have an old MM55sr and parked it a couple of months ago and when I went to do some work the controls are dead. I dropped the console and no action. I had stretched out the machine a bit more than usual extending the boom and bucket. A HD mech friend told me to tap the pressure relief under the floor boards and I had movement on controls for couple of minutes. Then I reset console up and down and movement again. I checked interlock micro switch in console and it tests out OK. Tapped pressure relief a couple more times and got movement but only for a minute Tracks and blade are always good, but no control in either joystick when dead. Pulled out the pressure relief valve and all looks good and spring seems right. Movement again in joysticks when valve back in. Lasted only a minute or two.
Flashing CPU light as always since I bought it but it always had worked controls before. Would be interested to hear from others. What next?
Thanks from farmerboy

cat 303.5 engine, hydrolics
2 part question. 1, just bought it, engine is 3 cyl perkins. It vibrates, mostly when just above idle, but powers up and seems ok. I thought maybe injector? Anyone know how to isolate the ofender if that might be it? 2; boom swing does not work in ether direction. (body swing is ok). Also, anyone know how to get into the hydraulic connector bank? I also have a 303.5c cr which has a lift up door which houses the hydr bank and tank. I am new to these machines, altho have worked on other simular equipment. Thanks for replys, Charlie

tb125 questions - what's normal?
recently bought an 04 takeuchi tb125 with 3300 hrs on it. I'm not terribly familiar with mini x's in general, but I was hoping someone could weigh in on what's normal operation for one of these. a couple things I notice - when in high speed travel mode it doesn't have enough power to turn. it can turn slightly by slowing one track momentarily during travel, but this is just enough to nudge it a bit. normal? sometimes it seems like it barely has enough power to turn even in slow mode, other times it seems to have plenty. it will always spin the tracks if I try to push too much dirt with the blade. also, the engine starts up first turn every time and sounds great, but it hazes smoke now and then when under load. doesn't seem to use oil much if at all. is that to be expected with 3300 hours on it? as far as digging goes I'm plenty happy, seems like it has enough power to pull itself over in nearly any position.

theft deterent?
I've been noticing a few people on craigslist posting about stolen equipment. It got me thinking, because I was parking my machine on busier street. Now, I've moved it to the back of the site, out of visibility.
I have a 12k lb Komatsu excavator, and it seems that all Komatsu keys are the same, so, clearly that is not very secure.
I wanted to throw it out to see what others are doing. I was thinking to lock the hydraulic engagement lever to the up position, but someone could cut (or freeze/brake) through the chain. Another thought was to throw a cheap phone inside, which has GPS tracking.
Any other ideas?
