Volvo ERC38 Opinions

Still trying to decide on a mini to buy. Came across a rental fleet about 3 hours away with 3 2009 ECR38's for sale with cabs with hvac in them all have between 900 and 1100 hours on them and they are asking 26,900 for each. How is the quality on these units? I've read that parts can be pricey on them but if they are decent in overall quality I'd be ok with that. Main uses would be small digging jobs, farm use, and running a brush cutter.

Mitz MS035 question

I have a Mitsubishi MS035 (as grey as they get) and I'd like to put a hydraulic thumb on it.
So my question is this: Does anyone know if the valve block has a power beyond port.
This machine is comparable in size and vintage to a Takeuchi TB35, 3.5 tons.

Thanks.

Burned odour in hydraulic oil? Do i flush? What type/viscosity?

Good Morning Team Players,

I have a Mitsubishi MX45 excavator - about 5 ton. I purchased it through an importer - grey market machine - about three years ago. All filters were changed at that time and the Hydraulic Oil was meant to be changed as well. When I received the machine I saw the level of hydraulic oil was exactly the same - a little low - but filters had all been changed and motor oil had been changed for sure. So hydraulic oil tank when working in Summer heat - about 35 c - could not be touched by hand - very hot - tested another day with heat gun and had 55c plus. I just used the machine the other day to clear some trees from my bridge and clear a little river gravel - dipper had a hesitancy in it - could be anything. So rather than break down in the middle of the flood pan I took it back to the shed and decided to change the hydraulic filter just in case - starting the process of elimination. When I pulled the filter the oil was very thin - like water and had a smell of burning about it - like auto transmission oil that has a burnt smell about it but usually turns a bit dark when it has that high temperature use about it. This oil although thin is perfectly clean looking - just thin - and I checked it several times over with the smell and new hydraulic oil and it definitely does have a burned smell.

So I have to change out the oil. Do I flush with a flushing agent as reports say burning means varnish and deposits? I am timid about this as it has no leaks of any mention and I don't want to cause more problems than what I have. Equally I don't want to do half a job. What flushing procedure/product would you guys recommend? Cat took over Mitsu but wont supply any details on specs or cant.

I am thinking they did not change the hydraulic oil originally and it maybe the original hydraulic oil that has been in there since mid nineties when machine was made and with roughly 2500hrs on the machine.

Any experiences/advices greatly appreciated,

Regards, MX45.

I am adding a set of remotes to my front stick for a hydraulic post pounder, tree shear, and other possible attachments that I am fabricating. The existing valve stack has an empty block that I am planning to use with a foot control. I believe that it was for an optional PTO. The valve stack is identified as a Nachi DPE-T03-C-D1-71663. Those numbers do not mean anything to Nachi U.S. and I haven't heard back from Nachi J.P. Does anyone have any identification or part numbers for the pressure relieve valve for this block?

Thanks, Shaun

KX121-3 Breaking Bucket Pins

I bought a 2010 KX121-3 on Valentine's Day with 818 hours on it. I broke the first pin at 853 hours (4/1/13) and broke the next today at 963. That's 110 hours on a $200 pin. Both pins broke at the grease hole at the center of the pin. No other damage, there is some wear to the bushings, I have replacements already (condition of purchase, new pins/bushings for the bucket and linkage). The ex has the Kubota quick coupler and thumb. On the thumb I have added a small "tooth" to each tine of the thumb.

The work I'm doing mainly is grubbing/clearing/digging out stumps. While the work can support the additional overhead, I would prefer to not have the problem reoccur. It broke 2 hours into an 8-9 hour day with no rental ex available. Also the dealer doesn't stock that part.

What can I do to minimize the risk of breakage? Obviously grabbing things eccentrically puts a good moment load on the pin. I wonder if bushing wear would increase the loading on the pin. I also figure my teeth on the thumb increase loading over the stock thumb, however it makes grabbing wood far easier and thus is a requirement. For some duties I could swap over to a hanging grapple, which would reduce the loading on the pin while handling debris.

Lastly, I suppose I shouldn't expect any warranty on the 2 month old pin, eh?

CAT 303 CR - Hard Starting

So I've had this cat for about 2 + years now. Since I've purchased it, it's been a hard to start piece of equipment. Needless to say, battery got fried, replaced it with 750cca unit, all connections clean/tight no change. So I thought, maybe it'll be the starter. Such a nightmare to get at, I left it till the solenoid finaly packed it in. Replaced it, still no change.

Always starts, just takes 5-8 seconds of steady cranking. Once warmed up, starts no problem. In our area, hardly ever gets below freezing, even in the winter. What do I look at next?

Thank you.

Hydraulic question for Bobcat 337 excavator

Hi, I have a question about my excavator. After using my machine for a bit and it gets warm I notice that if I put it back at an idle it lifts the boom very slow and the slew is slow also but all other hydraulic functions work fine at at normal speed. If I shut the machine off and let it sit for a minute or two full speed comes back to the boom and slew at idle. This problem goes away as soon as I increase my throttle speed to about 1/4 throttle. I was wondering if anyone has any insight as to what can be causing this. Thanks!

I've been looking at used (2002 - 2007) Kubota 121's and 91's lately and am confused by the "Super Series". I cannot find any information that clearly spells out the difference between a Super Series and their regular ex. Anybody know???

Hitachi ZX35u-2 Adjusting Auxiliary Flow?

I've got a breaker and am hoping to increase the GPM for auxiliaries. When I hook it up the breaker runs much slower than it should. You guys have any ideas? The breaker is new to me and haven't run it on the hitachi before, I did demo it on a bobcat e35 and it worked well. The auxiliary flow on the hitachi is rated at more flow than the e35 so in theory it should work on this machine. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thank you to all that helped me on the drive questions and all is good with the drive.

Now that the pipes are relocated I thought that the blade would be stronger. It goes up and down ok but it lacks strength to lift the machine.

The extending undercarriage does not extend, when I press the button and lower the blade the carriage just twitches.

When the machine gets warmer the slew also gets slower but the jib is unaffected. Slew motor was changed about a 18 months ago so hope it is not that.

I am a new owner of a money pit so please be gentle.:Banghead

Hydraulic system flush

I noticed that my hydraulic oil has moisture contamination (slightly milky colored). Anyone know of a method to flush the system to remove the moisture? I plan on changing the oil & filter anyway.

Thanks
