Hi All, Doing the yearly strip, clean, paint and repairs on my Bobby. Every year it seems, I am having to fix the ram shield for the blade. This year, the top lugs snapped off and the bottom of shield was bent a bit. Likely from back blading. The engineer who designed the ram to blade setup should be slapped. The problem is the shield gets too close to the ground, and if you back blade over a rock, it causes problems. I need the shield on, as when I plow, rocks (going forward) can tumble over blade and hit hydraulic lines (I had a rental many years ago, and the shield was gone, and a small rock hit the lower hydraulic fitting, and I had a geyser and big bill).
I reinforced the shield around the lower hydraulic fitting a few years back as the thin shield bent in that area...haven't had issues with that since, but the whole shield is not happy when I back blade (lot of strain).
Since I like to MIG weld, I was thinking of adding more metal...but where?
Has anyone reinforced that area where ram meets blade pin point? Adding a scrapper blade to bottom of blade would raise ram a bit, but that sounds like a headache and would decrease clearance when trying to maneuver in a tight spot. Ideally, redoing the pivot points would be the best idea, but that is a lot of work. I was thinking of adding a low profile U shaped iron piece on the underside of lower pivot point. I will probably run into problems back blading, as it would be the low point...another brainstorm was to weld on a muffler bracket to lower end of ram, then attach it to shield somehow?
Any idea appreciated.
